Goats in Nepal

Goats are an important livestock in Nepal. Often children look after the little goats.

After an exposure visite to the Tarahari model farm the farmers became motivated to try a different breed of goats. Hybrid, long eared goats provide more revenue to the farmers as they grow bigger. But hybrid goats need a special type of shed to grow healthy, therefore the famers had to learn how to build them. Hybrid goats cannot live on muddy ground but need a dry floor. Don Bosco offered the farmers funds to buy the building material and the goats. However, only those who properly build the shed according to the needs of the breed received the second grant to buy the goats as well.
